God is like a soft gentle breeze blowing on my soul—
a meadow bird’s morning song of praise,
a butterfly alight on a flower.
God refreshes my spirit like dew on grass
and I dwell in bliss.
God is all things sweet.
Whoa! Hold the phone!
God may come to us like a gentle breeze and refresh the surface of our lives but don’t count on that being all that God is. God comes to give life to our parched souls… and that demands the full force of his love… strong / penetrating / persistent / uprooting.
What we need is a storm inside our souls. A strong pelting rain to quench the void inside and lift us from the routine of everyday life. A mighty wind to move us from the comfortable places that keep us concerned only about ourselves. A real gully-washer that will cleanse all the hidden corners of our hearts.
Encourage the Storm
We will not grow unless we experience a God-of-the-Storm.
We begin but we do not finish.
Hildegard of Bingen
Encourage the storm.
